Project aims to fill electric mobility literacy gap in underserved communities

July 11, 2023, MINNEAPOLIS—The Great Plains Institute (GPI) is requesting proposals to help fill the literacy gap about electric mobility among low-income, historically marginalized groups, and other underserved communities in the Twin Cities.

Community-based organizations that serve the Twin Cities metropolitan area are eligible to apply as part of GPI’s Electric Vehicle Education for All initiative, which aims to deeply engage people of color, low-income and disabled individuals, and environmental justice communities about electric mobility.

The goal of the community engagement effort is to understand how frontline and historically marginalized communities think about electric mobility and to identify electric mobility literacy gaps. GPI and contracted community-based organizations will then co-create educational materials to fill those literacy gaps.

GPI staff will provide contracted community-based organizations with technical assistance, subject matter expertise, and other needed support for the engagement efforts.

Applications are due by August 1, and the engagement efforts will be carried out from January to June 2024.

GPI plans to award funding to as many as three community-based organizations.

While engagement plans will be co-created with GPI staff after funding has been granted, applicants should identify the engagement methods they would use and describe their expertise in carrying out those activities. Engagement methods may include but are not limited to tabling, digital engagement, pop-ups, surveys, door knocking, and workshops.

Application and project details are available here.
