Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers unveiled the state’s comprehensive clean energy plan this week. The Great Plains Institute played a key role in assisting the Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy in developing the plan.
“The work to create this clean energy plan brought parties to the table and created opportunities to address how Wisconsin can take advantage of the new clean energy economy,” said Doug Scott, GPI Vice President for Electricity. “This stakeholder process helped to create a sustainable, long-term energy plan that will deliver clean, affordable energy to generations of Wisconsin residents.”
According to the governor’s news release, the plan addressed not only the state’s carbon-free electricity goal and the Paris Accord goals but also key objectives, including the following:
- Reducing the disproportionate impacts of energy generation and use on low-income and communities of color
- Maximizing the creation of and equitable opportunities for clean energy jobs, economic development, and retention of energy investment dollars in Wisconsin
- Improving the reliability and affordability of the energy system
- Strengthening the clean energy workforce through training, reskilling, and education
- Protecting human and environmental health
