GPI released the following statement by Brendan Jordan, vice president of transportation and fuels, regarding the shutdown of HOURCAR announced on October 8, 2026:
“GPI extends its sincere appreciation to the team at HOURCAR, its leadership, and its community partners for years of dedicated service to the Twin Cities region. The decision to sunset operations marks a difficult and sad moment for our community.
“For over a decade, shared mobility options like HOURCAR and Evie have played an essential role in our regional transportation ecosystem, helping households reduce vehicle ownership, lowering local emissions, and providing flexible, everyday travel options for residents who rely on shared fleets. Losing a foundational community asset of this scale creates a genuine void for the neighborhoods, workers, and families who depend on it for everyday mobility. Three years after Nice Ride wound down its bikeshare operations in the Twin Cities, HOURCAR’s exit compounds the challenge to shared mobility in the Metro.
“As our region processes this loss, the need for robust, accessible, and affordable transportation alternatives is more urgent than ever. Shared transportation options are vital to keeping our communities connected and ensuring that mobility remains affordable for everyone, regardless of whether they own a personal vehicle.
“Rebuilding and reimagining shared transportation—with a core focus on equity, community collaboration, and affordability—will be a critical pillar in filling the mobility gaps left by today’s news and maintaining a resilient, multi-modal transportation network across the region.”
