The Great Plains Institute released the following statement from Patrice Lahlum, interim vice president of Carbon Management, in response to the White House Council on Environmental Quality’s (CEQ) announcement that Matt Fry, senior policy manager of Carbon Management, will serve on the new Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization and Sequestration Federal Lands and Outer Continental Shelf Permitting Task Force:

“Matt is a perfect fit for the important work this task force will undertake to ensure the efficient and responsible permitting processes needed to further deploy carbon management projects and technologies on our federal lands and in the offshore environment.

Matt brings a stellar reputation and extensive experience to the task force’s deliberations, including having helped lead the state and regional policy efforts at GPI’s Carbon Management program since August 2021.

Overall, Matt has more than two decades of experience in natural resource management, regulation, and policy in both the public and private sectors. That includes shepherding carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) policies as a senior advisor to former Wyoming Governor Matt Mead and developing and managing a statewide network of pipeline corridors in Wyoming to facilitate deployment of carbon dioxide pipeline infrastructure in order to incentivize CCUS project deployment.

We are excited at Matt’s appointment to this important task force, not just as a representative of our deep team of experts here at GPI, but as an immensely qualified and necessary voice in an area of critical importance to our nation’s decarbonization progress.”
