The Great Plains Institute is collaborating with Iowa State University (ISU) Extension & Outreach, recipients of a $1.7 million grant from the US Department of Energy through the R-STEP program, to guide Iowa communities in making informed decisions on large-scale renewable energy projects. GPI is proud to partner with ISU in this initiative, continuing our successful engagement of local and state stakeholders on community energy planning and implementation of renewable energy best practices.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to develop educational resources, conduct vital research, and provide tools to local governments and communities for enhancing renewable energy projects across Iowa. GPI is pleased to work alongside key partners such as the Center for Rural Affairs, the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s Energy Office, the Iowa Environmental Council, ISU Electric Power Research Center, and ISU Extension and Outreach.

“In the clean energy future, all communities will host clean energy generation,” said Brian Ross, vice president of Renewable Energy at GPI. “This program will enable local decision makers to work in partnership with developers and advocates to ensure that hosting renewable development provides local economic benefits, supports agricultural production, and enhances natural resources and local ecosystems.”
