Commercial interest in carbon management technologies and projects is growing rapidly, with nearly 90 publicly announced projects throughout the United States. More than 70 percent of the announced projects intend to store captured carbon dioxide (CO2) deep underground safely and permanently in saline geologic formations. The Justice 40 Initiative will direct a groundbreaking amount of federal funding for disadvantaged communities historically burdened by industrial waste in the United States. This initiative and voices from the environmental justice movement have inspired companies to focus on equity in their carbon management projects. This week, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) appointed Matt Fry to serve on its Committee on Carbon Utilization, Infrastructure, Markets, Research, and Development. Fry is the state and regional policy manager for the Great Plains Institute’s carbon management program and will work with other committee members to assess carbon utilization infrastructure, research, and development needs. States Release Action Plan for CO2 Transport Infrastructure & Storage

The signatory states of the CO2 Transport Infrastructure Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) have released a Regional Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Transport Infrastructure Action Plan which includes potential policies for states to consider to facilitate carbon dioxide (CO2) transport and storage project deployment.
